The Shout: How Can We Be Whole?

This past Tuesday, the question was asked at The Shout - "How Can We Be Whole?" The photographs that follow were made that evening and are the responses of some of the participating artists, volunteers and attendees to the question of what they believe we need to be whole again, as individuals or as a collective.

It was an absolute pleasure making these photographs of you all! I know I wasn't quite able to get to photograph everyone but I'm grateful to those of you that I did for sharing a bit of yourselves and your heart with me. (Note: You can reach me at deji+theshout@dejiosinulu.com)

A bit more information about The Shout for those of you wondering (from their website) - "The Shout is an ecumenical space that promotes the radical idea that justice and spirituality are inseparable from one another. Housed within the larger St. John’s UMC faith community, The Shout aims at taking seriously the injunction to 'love your neighbor as yourself,' and to do so in a way that promotes actions that echo throughout the city, the country, and the larger global community: 'Shout, do not hold back! Lift up your voice like a trumpet!'. ... Each month The Shout will be heard, incorporating different art forms (from poetry, visual art, photography, and music), as well as voices from different faith communities in a way that will speak to the injustices plaguing the Houston community, the national community, and the world at large."

You can find The Shout on Facebook and follow them in Instagram or Twitter.
